Side One on this (‘Theme Suites’ by Keith Mansfield) is pleasant enough, funky eazy listening, but Side Two (‘Mustang’ by John Cameron) is where things really get going. The opening two tracks, ‘Hobo (Parts 1 & 2)’, are low-down, dirty funk nuggets that have both appeared on various rare breakbeat comps. (Part 2 starts off with, then drops back into, a clanging drum break & appeared on one of those ‘Beyond the Valley of the Breaks’ comps.) ‘Mustang (Parts 1 & 2)’ are both quality tunes whose sound is highly reminiscent of Cameron’s sought-after ‘Afro Rock’ from the same rare library series. ‘Lonely Thoughts’ is a deep, reflective jazz-flute piece that will appeal to fans of Cameron’s ‘Off Centre’ LP on Deram.

A rare & little-known-about library LP that has some of the best damn grooves & tunes on it I’ve ever heard on a KPM record – no joke! From the intensive, beat-heavy club funk of ‘The Amazing Music Machine’, through the sparse & highly sample-able flute, bass, piano & drum intro to ‘Prelude & Groove Part 2’ (baaad!), right up to the many deep & reflective jazz cuts to be found on side two of this LP. A real winner from beginning to end!

This really is worth tracking down. 'Heavy Water' is a cracking heavy funk track with rock guitar riffs and hammonds. 'Ice Breaker' is a very tense slow piece that reminds me of the music on the Drama Suite's on Themes. Some killer rhodes playing make this a gem. 'Range Rover' is just a beautiful slow funky jam again with lovely chunky rhodes and flutes.

'Swamp Fever' starts as meaner, tenser little brother of 'Range Rover' - Lots of bongo's and heavy bass make this another ominous detective theme. But the song just elevates itself and soaring flutes and lovely keys come in making this a total classic. Shame it isnt't longer really. Lots more expertly played music to be checked out here - an classic library.

An ultra-rare library LP featuring some of the most killer tight orchestral funk, samples & grooves ever to come out of the prestigious KPM stables. Classic mid-70s, UK library, drama-soundtrack action on such funk gems as ‘Panther’, ‘Busy Aggregation’, ‘Taking Shape’, ‘The String Machine’, ‘Great Expectations’ & ‘Award to Industry’. The LP as a whole reminds me a bit of KPMs like ‘Impact’, ‘Visual Impact’, ‘Amusement’, etc., which were produced around the same time & featuring many of the same musicians.
